Jo and Dom

Jo and Dom’s wedding in 2014 was the first time I had worked at The George in Rye. Jo and Dom were both working and living in London with their small daughter, Frankie, so meeting up was tricky! But during one their visits down to St Mary’s church we met and walked round The George and the church together, really considering where flowers were needed, and how to incorporate elements of Jo’s Australian heritage into such a traditionally English style set of venues!

I was excited about what Jo wanted to do with the Ballroom, and we continued to talk via email between London and Eastbourne throughout the summer. The palette was coral, white and hot pink set against a back ground of grey-green foliage, predominantly Eucalyputs (as a nod to Jo’s homeland) and Olive. These colours work so well together, and striking Eremurus, Clarkia and a splash of red from Pelargonium provided a fantastic range of shapes and textures amongst all he foliage.

Jo wanted to add a little more decoration to the room, drawing the eye upwards and making use of the open space that gives the Ballroom such elegance. Two very large and very heavy foliage swags were designed and pinned to hang across the magnificent mantelpiece mirrors. These certainly added immediate impact in the room without becoming overbearing. As Jo said, “the wall hangings really filled the room. They drew the eye up and warmed the room, making it look like we’d covered every detail.”

Each place setting had a little sprig of Olive or Eucalyptus strung through the name tags, and we repurposed the pew ends from the church to adorn the chairs around the top table.

This was such a fun wedding, and the time spent collaborating with Jo and Dom, plus the other suppliers really paid off during the set up and execution of the day; “Your help with table settings and liaising with the church and the flowers really helped with the stress leading up to the day. The Pinterest board was a great way of sharing inspiration and being able to visualise. Plus, the visits and detail in the estimates was very appreciated.”

Jo’s bouquet was BIG. It was bountiful, generous and great fun to make! The size was noted by more than myself –  “I loved it! It was enormous!”

Thanks Jo and Dom for letting me be a part of your fabulous day! And thanks to Kris Piotrowski for the images.
